Mara, Gaelic for “sea”, is a sleek, contemporary wine bar and restaurant nestled in the heart of Leith’s scenic harbourside, The Shore. Stylish and spacious across two levels, the venue boasts expansive arched windows offering picturesque views of the Water of Leith and Firth of Forth. Inside, the décor is warm and natural – think caramel-rose hues, terracotta tiles, walnut bar, rust leather banquettes and lush greenery, creating a comfortable yet chic atmosphere.
The menu is all about sharing plates: from artisan Scottish cheeses and IJ Mellis charcuterie, to exotic plates like Thai basil wontons in pho broth, Malaysian‑style mussels, seafood tacos, halloumi skewers, jerk BBQ wings, and beef short‑rib bites – there’s something to tantalise every palate.
