For over two centuries, The Greswolde Arms has been an integral part of Knowle village life. Originally named ‘The Mermaid Inn,’ it came into the possession of the affluent Greswolde family of Malvern Hall in the early 1700s and remained under their ownership for generations. The transition to The Greswolde Arms occurred under the supervision of Henry Greswolde Lewis. While the oldest section of the establishment appears to have been timber-framed with steep gables, extensive renovations and extensions were carried out throughout the 18th and 19th centuries to cater to the growing coaching trade.
