Whey Pat Tavern

The Whey Pat is a renowned establishment in St Andrews, boasting the longest history among bars in the area. Situated near a site that dates back to the 12th century, resourceful locals were known to serve gruel to pilgrims at the West Port. The name ‘pat’ originates from the pot used to serve this gruel. Although the current building was constructed in 1902, a tavern has stood on this spot since 1580.
