Spice Island

Constructed on the harbour front in the 1700s, the establishment’s name originates from being the initial landing spot for spices from various parts of the globe. Historically situated just beyond the gates of old Portsmouth, it was deemed lawless and served as a base for press gangs recruiting for Nelson’s Navy. Following its survival of the ‘Blitzkrieg’ during WWII, the venue continues to offer patrons a prime view at the core of the historic Portsmouth.
