Choose from traditional favourites, seasonal specials, or indulgent Sunday roasts, complemented by a selection of fine wines and cask ales. Originally recorded as ‘Pinnedenna’ in the Domesday Book, Penenden Heath derives its name from the Old English term ‘pinia,’ signifying ‘to punish.’ This historic site served as a gathering place for Kent’s landowners to receive important notifications, with a penalty of one hundred shillings imposed on absentees. Notably associated with the Peasants Revolt of 1381, Penenden Heath was a pivotal location in the uprising against wage restrictions and the poll tax. Wat Tyler, the revolt’s leader, led a contingent of protesters from Penenden Heath to Maidstone and then onwards to London to confront King Richard II.
