The Gatwick Manor is an exceptionally charming 15th-century Grade II listed building situated in ten acres of picturesque grounds. Formerly known as Hyders, the central structure is a splendid illustration of a Wealden Open Hall, a style of timber-framed farmhouse constructed by affluent yeoman farmers in Kent and Sussex during medieval times. With walls exceeding three feet in thickness made of local Sussex stone, the once-moated Hall has preserved many authentic Tudor characteristics, such as fireplaces and substantial timber beams, alongside remnants of the original moat on the west side. Located just 30 minutes south of Brighton and less than an hour’s drive north of central London, The Gatwick Manor boasts an ideal position for day trips and exploring the stunning surrounding countryside. Additionally, it is conveniently situated only half an hour away from the South Downs National Park, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This splendid region of the English countryside offers captivating tourist trails, including the renowned South Downs Way. Whether visiting for leisure or business, The Gatwick Manor provides a perfect historic setting to relish delectable traditional pub fare, including seasonal specials and leisurely Sunday lunches. Nestled in Lowfield Heath and surrounded by ten acres of exquisite grounds, The Gatwick Manor’s oldest structure – now the Great Hall – dates back to the mid-13th century. Originally named Hyders, the primary building is a superb example of a Wealden Open Hall, a timber-framed farmhouse once prevalent in Kent and Sussex. The oak panelling, cruciform crown post, and colossal oak beams from the original hall, where the ‘ate Hyde’ family resided at the outskirts of Lowfield Heath, have all been meticulously preserved. The Gatwick Manor warmly welcomes guests and their dog-friendly companions to experience its rich history and serene surroundings.
