About Garden House

The Garden House is an elegant pub situated within three early 19th-century residences in the charming Edgbaston area of Birmingham. Within a half-mile radius of this delightful inn are the Grade II listed tower of Perrot’s Folly and the Victorian tower of Edgbaston Waterworks. The former was allegedly constructed to allow John Perrott, a local landowner, a viewpoint to observe his unfaithful wife. These two towers are said to have inspired the Two Towers in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels, as the author grew up in the shadow of these impressive Edgbaston landmarks. Edgbaston is also home to the picturesque Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses, established in 1832 by J. C. Loudon, a renowned garden planner of his era. The diverse plant collection includes a unique hybrid fern tree that has graced the gardens for over 140 years. Strolling through scenic Edgbaston will also lead visitors to the renowned Edgbaston Cricket Ground and the impressive University of Birmingham, where a striking clock tower overlooks a cluster of attractive brick buildings. The Garden House, a traditional and attractive pub in beautiful Edgbaston, is a fantastic venue for enjoying delicious pub food. Nestled away from the main road, behind a picturesque line of majestic trees, it offers a tranquil setting for a leisurely Sunday lunch and a refreshing pint of cask ale. Dating back to the early 19th century, The Garden House is located in Edgbaston, formerly a rural area on the outskirts of Birmingham, now transformed into a charming corner of this lively, historic, and appealing city in the West Midlands. While the early history of the area remains somewhat obscure, Edgbaston is thought to derive from Old English meaning ‘village of a man called Ecgbald’. This dog-friendly establishment invites guests to relax and enjoy its warm hospitality in the heart of Edgbaston’s scenic surroundings.
